Relax in your private Roomette sleeping accommodations. Bedrooms are available for an additional cost. Coffee, juice and water are available in the sleeping car. Day 3: En Route / Seattle

You may want to rise early to watch the sun come up over some spectacular scenery. This morning the Empire Builder will enter the 7.8-mile long Cascade Tunnel. Over the next two hours we’ll wind through the scenic Cascade Mountains and then through the lush Puget Sound area and ease into Seattle late morning.

We will set out on a sightseeing tour of Seattle. The tour will include Chinatown, concrete floating bridges, Lake Washington and the University of Washington. You will have time for an “on-your-own” lunch.

We’ll check into the Roosevelt, a boutique hotel that exemplifies old-world charm, located in the heart of Seattle’s thriving downtown.

You’re free the rest of the day to relax or explore. You’re within easy walking distance of 30 restaurants, numerous shops, the Pike Place Market and The Paramount Theatre. You’ll be free to explore Pioneer Square, Pike Place Market, take a Boeing plant tour or perhaps a Puget Sound dinner cruise.

A double-decker hop-on, hop-off sightseeing bus departs every 30 minutes.

Day 4: Holland America’s Eurodam Embarkation

You’re free this morning to relax or explore. At noon we’ll transfer to the cruise ship terminal where we’ll board the beautiful Holland America Eurodam. We will set sail at 4:00 p.m.

Holland America Line has been a recognized leader in the cruising industry for over 140 years. Innovative programs and superior amenities have earned them the prestigious Five Star Diamond Award from The American Academy of Hospitality Sciences and one of the highest rates of repeat guests in the industry.

You’ll discover a wealth of both fun and enriching activities: partake in as many—or as few—as you like. Enjoy delicious cuisine from a broad range of dining venues, enjoy a casual bite poolside to a formal five-course dinner.

Led by Master Chef Rudi Sodamin, the exceptional culinary staff creates signature Holland America Line dishes using only the freshest produce and the highest quality meats and seafood available.

Following dinner you can choose from a variety of evening entertainment. Catch a musical production show, dance the night away, visit one of the many lounges featuring live music and award-winning entertainment, watch a first-run movie in the theater or try your luck at the casino.

Meal(s):  L & D

Day 5: Cruising

Ahh, now this is relaxing! There is as much or as little as you care to do. The Daily Program delivered to your stateroom each night will be your guide to the following day’s activities and events. Activities include language classes, bingo, cruise staff-conducted trivia and sports (ping pong, putting and chipping, etc.) competitions, movie screenings (with freshly popped popcorn), art auctions and casino tournaments. And of course you can always just curl up with a good book as the blue Pacific Ocean drifts by. Keep an eye out for migrating grey and humpback whales.

Meal(s):  B, L & D

Day 6: Juneau

There are no roads that lead to Juneau. Named after Joseph Juneau who discovered gold in the 1880s, Alaska’s capital city gracefully balances frontier ruggedness with cosmopolitan flair. Mendenhall Glacier, a spectacular river of ice measuring 1.5 miles wide and over 12 miles long, hugs Juneau’s north side. And of course no visit to Juneau is complete without a stop at the world-famous Red Dog Saloon.

Tonight we’ll enjoy another great evening.

Sample optional shore excursions:
Alaska Salmon Bake, Mendenhall River Float Trip, Mt. Roberts Tramway, Mendenhall Glacier & Gardens, Whale Watching & Wildlife Quest, Best of Juneau, Mendenhall Glacier Helicopter Tour, Dog Sledding on the Mendenhall Glacier, Underground Gold Mine Tour, Gold Panning Adventure & Salmon Bake.

Meal(s):  B, L & D

Day 7: Glacier Bay

Covering 3.3 million acres of rugged mountains, dynamic glaciers, temperate rainforest, wild coastlines and deep sheltered fjords, Glacier Bay National Park is a highlight of Alaska’s Inside Passage and part of a 25-million acre World Heritage Site-one of the world’s largest international protected areas.

This morning National Park Rangers will come aboard our ship to set up an information desk and provide narration. Our captain will do his best to get us up close and personal to the more active glaciers. The park is home to an amazing array of marine life, including humpback whales, sea otters, porpoises, sea lions and harbor seals. Both black and brown (grizzly) bears are commonly encountered as are moose, mountain goats, bald eagles and tufted puffins.

Meal(s):  B, L & D

Day 8: Sitka

With stunning views of island-dotted waters and majestic spruce forests that reach the water, many consider Sitka to be Alaska’s most beautiful seaside town. In a state filled with tales of boom towns and ghost towns, Sitka has the distinction of having been settled for over ten thousand years. The Tlingit Indians called this area home long before Russians settled here in 1799. Sitka offers the unique combination of Native culture, Russian history and Alaskan wilderness.

Sample optional shore excursions:
Bird Watching & Nature Walk, Salmon & Halibut Fishing, Sitka Russian Heritage Tour, Birds, Bears & Barnacles, Culture & Nature Walk, Bear & Sea Otter Quest, Tongass Rain Forest Nature Hike, Sitka In-Focus.

Tonight we’ll enjoy a great evening of dining and entertainment.

Meal(s):  B, L & D

Day 9: Ketchikan

Ketchikan is located on the shores of Alaska’s Inside Passage within the sixteen million acre Tongass National Forest. The evergreen mountains and lush landscape are a stark contrast to the lunar landscapes of northern Alaska. Many are surprised to hear that this area is a rainforest and even during winter the temperature seldom drops below freezing.

Ketchikan also boasts the world’s largest collection of Northwest totems and is often regarded as the salmon capital of the world. Take a stroll on the old boardwalk along Ketchikan Creek in search of shops and cafés.

Sample optional shore excursions:
Alaska Rain Forest Sanctuary, Raptor Center & Totems, An Alaskan Chef’s Table, An Alaskan Fish Camp, Bear Creek Zipline Adventure, Bering Sea Crab Fisherman’s Tour, City Highlights, Totems & Creek Street by Trolley, Ketchikan Salmon Fishing, Wilderness Exploration & Crab Feast.

Victoria, North America’s most British city, lies at the southern tip of Vancouver Island.

Sample optional shore excursions include:
Grand City Drive & Empress Tea, Double-Decker Tour, Whale Watching Cruise and several variations of Butchart Garden tours.

We’ll enjoy a final night on our beautiful ship as it traverses The Strait of Georgia to our final port, Seattle.

Meal(s):  B, L & D

Day 11: Seattle

We’ll disembark this morning and visit the world-famous Space Needle. Enjoy a spectacular panorama of the city, waterways, Cascade and Olympic Mountains from the 520-foot high observation deck.

Then we’ll be heading to the iconic Pike Place Market (where they throw the fish!) for an “on-your-own” lunch.

We will arrive at Seattle’s King Street Amtrak station in time to board the Empire Builder. Departure is scheduled for this afternoon.
