Chicago
We arrived at the curb loading area on South Canal Street near Union Station in Chicago at about 4:30 P.M., right on schedule. I claimed my bag and stood on the curb waving my cane at the passing taxis.
A young man standing nearby said, “Need a cab?”
“Sure do.”
“Hold on!” as he stepped right into the street and stopped the first available taxi he saw.
“Come on now!” he yelled, took my bag, put it into the trunk and helped me into the back seat.
“Thank you!” I shouted.
I was most pleased with my first encounter with someone in Chicago.
I checked into the Allerton Hotel. It’s an older classic building located on the “Miracle Mile” that has been totally renovated. The exterior remains much as it was originally, but the interior is completely redone in a very richly appointed modern décor. Very impressive.
My room was very comfortable, nicely furnished including one king-size bed.
