Day 1: Depart Chicago
Pacific Coastal Odyssey tour members will meet the Tour Director in Chicago’s Union Station. The Metropolitan Lounge will be our base in Chicago. The Willis Tower, one of the world’s tallest buildings is close by. Other Chicago attractions are a short cab ride away.
We’ll board the Southwest Chief for its 3:00 p.m. departure. Relax in your private Roomette sleeping accommodations. Bedrooms are available at an additional cost. Bottled water, juice and coffee are available in the sleeping cars. Enjoy a full-course dinner in the dining car.
You will want to spend time in the Sightseer Lounge where the glass windows rise from floor level to the ceiling. It is a great place to view the passing scenery.
Day 2: En Route
Last night we traveled across the state of Kansas. We will be near the Colorado border when you awaken. Today you will experience the excitement of the Santa Fe Trail as we cross New Mexico and Arizona. You will have time for a trainside walk when we arrive in Albuquerque at mid afternoon.

Day 3: Los Angeles / San Diego
You’ll want to have an early breakfast, our arrival into Los Angeles is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. We will board the Pacific Surfliner for the 9:55 a.m. departure.
We’ll travel 128 miles along the beautiful Pacific Ocean coastline to San Diego on a Pacific Surfliner from Los Angeles to San Diego.
Upon arrival we will board our deluxe motorcoach and transfer to the beautiful, waterfront Seaport Village for an “on-your-own” lunch. You will have time to visit some of the unique stores.
At 2:00 p.m. we will set out on a sightseeing tour of San Diego. Our tour includes downtown’s renowned Gaslamp Quarter, the Embarcadero, Balboa Park, Old Town and the famed Hotel Del Coronado.
Following our tour we will check into the Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town, our home for the night.
Day 4: Embarkation
You’re free this morning to relax or explore. At 12:00 p.m. we’ll transfer to the cruise ship terminal where we’ll board the beautiful Holland America Zaandam. We will set sail at 11:00 p.m.

Following dinner you can choose from a variety of evening entertainment. Catch a musical production show, dance the night away, visit one of the many lounges featuring live music and award-winning entertainment, watch a first-run movie in the theater or try your luck at the casino.

Day 5: Cruising
Ahh, now this is relaxing! There is as much or as little as you care to do. The Daily Program delivered to your stateroom each night will be your guide to the following day’s activities and events. Activities include language classes, bingo, cruise staff-conducted trivia and sports (ping pong, putting and chipping, etc.) competitions, movie screenings (with freshly popped popcorn), art auctions and casino tournaments. And of course you can always just curl up with a good book as the blue Pacific Ocean drifts by.

Day 6: San Francisco
This morning we arrive in San Francisco, everyone’s favorite “City by the Bay.”
Sample optional shore excursions include: Scenic San Francisco, Muir Woods and Sausalito, Hop-on Hop-off San Francisco Highlights, Hop-on Hop-off San Francisco Highlights & Golden Gate Bay Cruise, San Francisco & Sausalito.

Days 7 & 8 : Cruising
Relax and enjoy the amenities of the ship.

Day 9: En Route
This morning we’ll arrive in Vancouver, B.C. where we will disembark.
Upon arrival we will board our motorcoach and travel to Seattle.
We will arrive at Seattle’s King Street Amtrak station in time to board the Empire Builder. Departure is scheduled for this afternoon.
Roomette sleeping accommodations and all dining car meals are included. Upgrades to Bedrooms are available for an additional cost.
After settling in you can enjoy the beautiful Puget Sound scenery between Seattle and Everett.

Day 10: En Route
Enjoy a delicious dining car breakfast and then head for the Sightseer Lounge car. Today a dramatic panorama of snow-capped Rocky Mountain peaks will begin to rise above the horizon, becoming increasingly dynamic as we approach Glacier National Park. The scenery is striking as we wind past waterfalls, river gorges and other sights. The rest of the day we’ll cross the remote flatlands of eastern Montana and western North Dakota.

Day 11: En Route to Chicago
Breakfast and lunch on the train are included. After we go through Minneapolis-St. Paul we head south along the west bank of the Mississippi River. The train winds between the river bank and high bluffs. Later in the morning, we pass through the picturesque Dells Country of Wisconsin. The Empire Builder is scheduled to arrive in Chicago’s Union Station late this afternoon.
At the conclusion of the tour some travelers will continue to home destinations. Others will spend the night in Chicago and continue home tomorrow.
