THE FUN BEGINS!
Day 1: Depart Chicago
Great Lakes Family Adventure tour members will arrive in Chicago’s Union Station throughout the day. This afternoon we will board Amtrak’s Empire Builder to the Wisconsin Dells.
You will enjoy dinner in the diner on the train before our scheduled arrival of 5:49 p.m.
Upon arrival we will transfer to the Kalahari Resort, our home for the next two nights.
Day 2: The Dells
The fun begins! You and the kids will have access to 125,000 square feet of wet and wild fun and excitement.
Body board or stand-up surf on the FlowRider®. Experience the thrill of the Master Blaster. Brave the Sahara Sidewinders and the Screaming Hyena. Challenge yourself to the ropes course or climbing walls or blast your way through a game of laser tag. Try your skill at bowling or hundreds of arcade games.
You can relax and unwind in the Mud Hut Swim-Up Bar or enjoy a hot soak and experience total relaxation in the new Family Indoor/Outdoor Hot Tub.
You and the kids can enjoy the Victoria Falls family raft ride, a huge indoor wave pool, the lazy river, spas, Leopard’s Lair and Tiko’s Watering Hole, just to name a few of the many activities.
Day 3: The S.S. Badger, Manitowoc to Ludington
This morning we’ll board our motorcoach and travel to Manitowoc, Wisconsin where we’ll board the S.S. Badger, the largest cross-lake passenger service on the Great Lakes, and enjoy an authentic steamship experience. The 410-foot ship features outside deck areas, a Video Arcade, Kids Port Play Area, Movie Lounge and TV Lounge, deli-style snack bar, buffet-style dining area, upper deck lounge, aft end lounge, gift shop/ship’s store, free quiet room/museum!
Relax on deck during the scenic 60-mile cruise across Lake Michigan to Ludington, Michigan.
Upon arrival we will enjoy an included dinner at the House of Flavors restaurant.
Our home for tonight will be the Ludington Comfort Inn.
Day 4: Muskegon, Silverside Submarine Tour and Museum
This morning we’ll board our motorcoach and head south to Muskegon where we’ll tour a WWII Submarine.
The U.S.S. Silversides was commissioned a few days after the attack on Pearl Harbor and is credited with sinking 23 Japanese ships during WWII. She received 4 Presidential Unit Citations and 12 Battle Stars for her service. Sixty-five enlisted men along with 10 officers lived aboard this historic vessel. We will be able to enter and tour the actual submarine. We will also tour the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter McLane and visit the Silversides Submarine Museum.
Following the tour we will board our motorcoach and travel south 35 miles to the beautiful city of Holland, MI.
An “on-your-own” lunch stop will be made.
We will arrive at Nelis’ Dutch Village, a family fun and shopping experience.
The kids can ride a 1940 Ferris Wheel, enjoy the Little Tikes Turnpike, try the Wooden Shoe Mini Zip Line & Windmill Water Pumping Race, a Dutch Chair Swing Ride or a Self-Propelled Train Car Ride.
There are 30 structures in the Dutch Village, with architecture representing different provinces in the Netherlands. You’ll see costumed klompen (wooden shoe) dancers, street organs, a carousel, carillon bells, heirloom quality gifts and other Dutch treats. You will hear Carillon Bell Music on the hour plus the Westminster Chimes.
You can see a Wood Carver demonstrate the making of traditional wooden shoes by hand. You can also see Delftware being made and the VanderWilt Antique Collection.
You’ll love the diverse, first-class shopping - everything from trendy boutiques to upscale clothiers.
Our home for the night is the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Holland.
A Farewell dinner is included in the hotel.

Day 5: En Route to Chicago
This morning we will board our motorcoach and transfer to the Holland Amtrak Station for the 6:54 a.m. departure of the Pere Marquette for Chicago.
Arrival into Chicago is scheduled for 9:11 a.m. Travelers will continue to home destinations throughout the day.
