Day 1: Depart Chicago
Christmas Special to San Antonio tour members will meet the Tour Director in Chicago’s Union Station and board the Texas Eagle for the 1:45 p.m. departure.
This train features double-decker Superliner equipment. Relax in your comfortable reclining coach seat with leg rest. Roomettes or Bedrooms are available at an additional cost.
You’ll want to go to the glass-walled Sightseer Lounge car for spectacular viewing. All dining car meals are included beginning with dinner tonight.
Day 2: En Route / San Antonio
This morning our train rolls through eastern Texas in a straight line, due west, past small farms and pine forests. We arrive in Dallas late morning and Fort Worth early afternoon.
You’ll have time for a brief trainside walk in Fort Worth. We’re scheduled to arrive in San Antonio at 9:55 p.m. Upon arrival, we’ll transfer to our hotel, the Drury Inn & Suites Riverwalk.

Day 3: San Antonio
Enjoy a full included breakfast at our hotel each morning in San Antonio.
At 10:00 a.m. our guide will greet us to share their knowledge of historic San Antonio. We’ll board a comfortable motorcoach and embark on a tour of this historic city, including one of the great shrines of American history, the Alamo. Our group will be taken on a guided tour of this impressive structure. Relive and learn about Texas history at the Institute of Texas Culture.
We’ll have an included lunch at the historic Menger Hotel. This afternoon we’ll move on to the Historic Market Square for the Premier Sabado. This monthly event features local entertainment, arts and crafts, food and more. You’ll have an opportunity to visit many shops featuring Mexican crafts and goods. The Market is the center of San Antonio’s rich Mexican culture.
As the day’s shadows begin to fall, the evening’s Ford Fiesta de las Luminarias will begin. Experience the holiday ambiance of the River Walk as you stroll along the lush banks of the San Antonio River guided by more than 6,000 luminarias. Warmly glowing candles in sand-filled bags line the walkways to symbolically mark the “lighting of the way” for the Holy Family.
As darkness takes over, joyous caroling will fill the evening air along the River Walk. A mix of school, church, company and civic groups ring in the holidays by singing traditional carols on cruising boats.

Day 4: San Antonio
Following a full included breakfast, you’re free this morning to relax or stroll down the River Walk.
Late morning we will board our motorcoach. We’ll stop and enjoy an included BBQ lunch.
A highlight of our tour will occur this afternoon. We’ll enjoy a spectacular performance of the Nutcracker by the Ballet San Antonio.
You’re free this evening to explore the River Walk, shop, or ride a river boat.

Day 5: En Route
This morning we’ll transfer to the San Antonio Amtrak station and board the Texas Eagle prior to its 7:00 a.m. departure for Chicago.
We will have breakfast-to-go bags from the hotel.
The Eagle features double-decker Superliner equipment. Relax in your comfortable, reclining coach seat with leg rest. Roomettes and Bedrooms are available for an additional cost.
The Sightseer Lounge car provides excellent viewing of the passing scenery. You’ll want to spend time reminiscing with your fellow tour members about all you saw and did in the past five days.
Lunch and dinner are included on the train today.

Day 6: En Route to Chicago
You can enjoy a hot breakfast in the dining car this morning.
During the night we passed through Texas and Arkansas and are now in Missouri and Southern Illinois. There is time to stroll the platform during the layover in St. Louis. Look for the famed Arch as we depart.
We are scheduled to arrive into Chicago at 1:52 p.m. Tour members will depart for home destinations throughout the day.
