Day 1: Depart Chicago
Autumn in the Adirondacks West and Midwest tour members will meet in Chicago Union Station. At 8:00 p.m. we’ll board the Lake Shore Limited. Departure is scheduled for 9:30 p.m.
Relax in your comfortable reclining coach seat with leg rest. Viewliner Roomettes or Bedrooms are available at an additional cost.
You’re free to explore the train. Go to the lounge car for snacks, sandwiches and beverages.
East tour members will travel independently to Albany, New York.
Day 2: En Route / Albany
The Lake Shore Limited will pass through Toledo, Cleveland and Erie early this morning. Tour members from upper New York State will board this morning. Arrival into Albany is scheduled for 2:50 p.m.
We will transfer to the Hampton Inn & Suites Albany Downtown, our home for the night where we will meet our East travelers.

Day 3: Saratoga & North Creek Railway
This morning we’ll board a deluxe motorcoach and transfer to Saratoga Springs in time for the 10:00 departure of the Saratoga & North Creek Railway. We’ll encounter magnificent scenery as we roll in and out of dense forest and along the pristine water of the upper Hudson River. We’ll pass several quaint towns and villages before reaching North Creek.
You can enjoy an “on-your-own” lunch aboard the train or at one of the restaurants in North Creek. Our arrival is scheduled for 12:12 p.m.
The North Creek Railway Station is remembered by historians as the place where Vice President Theodore Roosevelt, who was on a hunting trip in the area, learned of the death of President McKinley and thus his succession to the presidency of the United States. The station is now a museum.
The museum complex also includes the restored freight house and engine house that are currently occupied by the railroad, a sand tower and a ninety-foot turntable.
This afternoon we’ll board our motorcoach and transfer to the Best Western Plus Ticonderoga, our home for the night.
A Welcome Dinner will be held at the hotel.

Day 4: Fort Ticonderoga / Plattsburgh
Following a Continental breakfast in our hotel, we’ll board our motorcoach for Fort Ticonderoga. Located on the western shore of Lake Champlain, it was originally a French fort called Carillon and was seized by the British in the French and Indian War. The fort was later captured by Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys along with Benedict Arnold in 1775. This was America’s first victory of the Revolution.
We will be greeted by a costumed interpreter and given a brief historical introduction to the site. We will then be free to explore the museums, daily programs, demonstrations and exquisite gardens.
There will be time for an “on-your-own” lunch at the fort.
This afternoon we’ll transfer to the Ticonderoga Amtrak Station and board the famous Adirondack. This has been nominated by National Geographic Traveler Magazine as one of the world’s ten best rail trips. We’ll experience the best of this scenery as the train hugs the western shore of Lake Champlain.
Our arrival into Plattsburgh is scheduled for 3:22 p.m. We’ll board our deluxe motorcoach and enjoy the scenic drive to Lake Placid. Our home for the next two nights is the Hampton Inn Lake Placid.
You’ll enjoy an included dinner tonight at our hotel.

Day 5: Lake Placid
This morning we’ll board our motorcoach for a sightseeing tour of this beautiful area. We’ll visit the Lake Placid Winter Olympic Museum and Hall of Fame. This little mountain village twice became the center of the winter sports world, once in 1932 and again in 1980.
An “on-your-own” lunch stop will be made.
This afternoon you are free to explore this beautiful area.
Day 6: Thendara / Utica / En Route
Following a Continental breakfast we’ll board our motorcoach and travel to Raquette Lake where we will enjoy an included lunch cruise.
Following the cruise we will continue to Thendara. En route we will stop at Old Forge. You will have time for shopping and exploring.
We’ll board the southbound Adirondack Scenic Railroad in Thendara for Utica. We’ll travel through forests, over rivers and streams, enjoying more of the hidden beauties of the Adirondacks.
Our arrival into Utica is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Upon arrival we’ll enjoy a Farewell dinner.
Midwest tour members will board the Lake Shore Limited and enjoy the same accommodations and amenities as on their eastbound trip. Dinner is included on the Lake Shore Limited.
Eastern and Mid-Atlantic tour members will stay overnight and head home tomorrow.

Day 7 : En Route to Home Destinations
West and midwest tour members will enjoy an early breakfast prior to their arrival into Chicago at 9:45 a.m. on the Lake Shore Limited. They’ll continue on to home destinations throughout the morning and afternoon.
Eastern and Mid-Atlantic travelers will transfer to Utica’s Union Station in time for the 10:51 a.m. train for New York’s Penn Station where they’ll transfer to trains bound for home destinations.
